A Hand Up - Not a Handout
Habitat for Humanity of San Angelo is a proud local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a globally recognized nonprofit Christian organization committed to building homes, communities, and hope. We are part of a vast network of more than 2,100 affiliates that have helped build over 1.5 million homes worldwide. Here in San Angelo, our mission remains the same: to partner with local families in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing.
Built Through Partnership
At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful model - partnership. Habitat homes are not given away. Instead, we work with families, not for them. Each future homeowner contributes a minimum of 300 hours of "sweat equity," helping build their own home and the homes of others. These families also participate in homeowner education, preparing them for long-term success and financial responsibility.
Affordable and Sustainable
Homes are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with a zero-interest mortgage, making monthly payments affordable and stable. There are no cash down payments required, removing a major barrier to homeownership for low-income families. These monthly payments are then recycled into our Fund for Humanity, allowing us to build even more homes in our community.
Fueled by Volunteers and Donations
Everything we do is made possible through the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors. From local churches and civic groups to individuals swinging hammers or writing checks, every act of support helps build a stronger San Angelo. Materials, labor, and financial contributions go directly into our homebuilding projects - creating a ripple effect of hope and opportunity.
Building More Than Homes
Habitat for Humanity of San Angelo is about more than just constructing houses - we’re building futures, restoring dignity, and strengthening families. When a family moves into a Habitat home, they gain more than a roof over their heads; they gain stability, safety, and a sense of pride. Together with our community, we’re working to break the cycle of poverty and empower generations to come.
